Adult Education: A Critical Community Asset

Minneapolis Adult Education connects individuals to the skills, supports and opportunities they need to gain stability and self-sufficiency, get on the path to a career and contribute to society as workers, parents and citizens.



Minneapolis Adult Education creates and delivers exceptional program design and instruction for adults needing life, academic and work literacy skills. Adult Education serves over 6,000 adults annually in classes. In addition to several community partners, the adult education program operates out of two school district sites:

In-person and distance learning options are available.

Academic instruction is provided in:

  • General Educational Development (GED) and College Preparation
  • English Language Learning (ELL) and Citizenship
  • Career Pathways

Minneapolis Public Schools Adult Education is a Program of Minneapolis Community Education

Minneapolis Community Education exists to facilitate the learning and participation of adults and children so they can improve their lives and their community. MCE provides opportunities for local citizens, schools, agencies and institutions to become active partners in addressing education and community concerns. Community Education brings community members together to identify and link community needs and resources in a manner that helps people to help themselves and to raise the quality of life in their communities.
