In addition to traditional classroom-based programs, Minneapolis Adult Education offers free distance learning (online) classes for ELL, AE, GED and college prep students. Students can choose from two different distance learning options: independent study or blended learning.
Independent study allows students to develop and manage a goal-directed, online learning program in consultation with a teacher from the Adult Education program. In addition to online study, regular contact between the student and staff is required. This contact may occur in person or by using agreed-upon technology.
Blended learning combines both regularly-scheduled, whole-group class time on campus each week with required online study. Students complete online assignments between face-to-face meetings.
To schedule a meeting with the distance learning coordinator to discuss distance learning options, complete the Distance Learning Pre-Registration Form.
